Classification
12A
Tone
The tone of the film can effect the classification of a film. If the film illustrates a particularly dark or unsettling tone then it can effect the rating. Psychological thrillers are an example of this.
Language
BBFC guidelines state that there may be strong language at a film classified 12 or 12A, but it must be infrequent. The context of strong language is important and aggressive use of strong language may result in DVD being rated a 15. This is due to the fact that scenes can be repeated with a DVD.
Violence
At 12A moderate violence is allowed but it should not dwell on violence or gory moments. Blood and gore may be shown as long as it is in the appropriate context e.g. a medical drama.
(12A is for cinema release only, where as 12 is for DVD release only.)
Our Thriller may be classified 12, however it limits the amount of content relevant to our thriller we can include, such as violence or an unsettling tone. This would decrease the amount of freedom we have to create a thriller that has the typical conventions. However a benefit of this that it widely broadens our possible target audience for the film.
15
Tone
Any tone can be accepted at this classification.
Language
Strong language expected at 15 rated film.
Violence
Gory, strong violence expected at 15
This would be a good classification for our film as it allows us the freedom of strong language and violence, which is a convention of thrillers ( Seven, Taxi, Secret Window etc.). However it also allows the opportunity to appeal to a wide target audience.
18
Tone
Any tone can be accepted at this classification, strong horror element is also expected at 18 rated film.
Language
Strong language expected throughout, strong discriminatory language and behaviour is also accepted at this classification.
Violence
Extremely Strong violence expected.
This rating allows us freedom to create what ever kind of film we want and include. Any tone, violence or language is accepted at this rating, however our target audience is much less broad than if we were to use a lower classification.

This is when the mother realises that Kelly really does have mental issues and decides to get it checked by a specialist the next day. The final night of the film were everything becomes revealed to the audience Kelly sitting there talking to herself about killing her other brother and persuades herself it’s the right thing to do. She goes to his bedroom with wire and strangles him. Mother hears the choking of her son and wakes up and runs to the room. The little brother laying there dead and mother goes into Kelly’s room she isn’t there. The rain and thunder the electricity in the house cuts out. The mother hears footsteps running around all over the house and then the crying of baby Joe goes quiet. Mother runs to the room and he’s gone. She hears the bay down stairs and runs down stairs and then it goes quiet again the footsteps all over the dark house of Kelly as the mother gets a glimpse of her he’s was holding Joe and runs back upstairs very quickly. Mother grabs a torch from the kitchen and races upstairs and the attic door is open which leads to the roof. Mother gets out there in the dark rain with the lightening being there light and sees Kelly standing at the edge holding with a smile on her face. Mother tries speaking to her and gets closer but Kelly says she will throw the baby over as she says everyone’s go to die now. Mother speaks to her in a very calm manor and gets her to get away from the edge and mother runs in and takes Joe. Kelly gets angry and takes tries to attack her mum but fails and falls of the roof of the house and dies. 2 days later Christopher is realised from prison and family mother and 2 sons go back to the city to live again.
The film starts with a family who recently moved house. The family consists of Mum, dad, older brother, girl and younger brother. The controlling, abusive dad moves there to escape pressure of city life. The dad and older brother are constantly arguing, and the mum is obsessed with the newborn baby. This leads to the neglect of the young daughter, who soon begins to resent every male member of the family. Soon after they move to the country, the father and son begin arguing more. Deprived of company, the girl creates a companion of her own whom she turns to for advice and friendship.
One night after an argument between the father and son, a pair of hands is seen smothering the drunk father with a pillow while he sleeps leading to his death. We are unaware of the person behind the attack, although all signs lead towards the brother being guilty, and he is quickly sent to prison. This leads to a grief stricken mother who is easily controlled by her daughter and an ultimately female led household. We are later shown signs to hint the guilty side of the girl, the story is unveiled through the use of the girls imaginary friend.
The film is resolved in the end through the girls acceptance of the murders she commited,
